This year the Santa Barbara community was blessed to have great weather and waves for the annual locals only Rincon Classic presented by Surf Happens, Quicksilver, and Channel Islands Surfboards. This event is truly one of my favorite surf contests of the year because all of my friends are in the competition, the beach is hot in the dead of winter, and we all get to enjoy each others company in the spirit of surfing Rincon.
Here are some of my pics from the event... check out more of mine on Surfline

This year in Santa Barbara surfing history, I was blessed to be apart of the amazing Rincon Classic 2012 surf contest staff! I was stoked to donate my time and energy to one of our community's most anticipated winter events and so happy to make some new friends along the way. A big thank you to contest director Chris Keets from Surf Happens and our sponsors including Channel Island Surfboards, Quicksilver, Teva Shoes, and many more! The event was a huge success! Can't wait till next year!
Stoked to have BL!SSS donate some mags to the event!
Santa Barbara local Bobby Martinez wins the 2009 Billabong Pro Tahiti presented by Air Tahiti Nui, defeating fellow Finalist Taj Burrow (AUS), 30, in clean three-to-five foot (1.5 metre) waves at Teahupoo.
This is a huge win for SB loco Bobby and we are all happy and ready to celebrate his victory this weekend!!!! 30 k Fools! Everyone from the EIGHT ZERO FIVE familia is just overwhelmed by this win and sends a huge congratulations and love. I have seen Bobby the past couple weeks at The Pit and his positive attitude and energy have been amazing! And it looks like it paid off!
Event No. 3 of 10 on the 2009 ASP World Tour, the Billabong Pro Tahiti survived a marathon waiting period, culminating on the second-to-last available day in improving conditions that peaked for a climactic Final.
Martinez surfed a near-flawless heat, opening up with an impressive 8.73 out of a possible 10 before putting his opponent in a combination situation with a Houdini-esque 9.73 out of a possible 10. Netting the highest heat total of the event, an 18.46 out of a possible 20, Martinez claimed his second Billabong Pro Tahiti and fourth elite tour win, establishing himself as one of the premier tube-riders in the world.
